Obtain a TIN Number

What you'll need
- •National Identity Card (NIC) — Sri Lankan citizens
- •Valid passport — foreign nationals
- •Proof of address (if different from NIC address)
- •Business Registration Certificate (if adding proprietorship details)
Check if you already have a TIN
Search the IRD e-Services portal to confirm you're not already registered. Avoid duplicate registrations.
Verify RegistrationGather your documents
Sri Lankan citizens need their NIC. Foreign nationals need a valid passport. If your current address differs from your NIC, bring acceptable address proof. If adding proprietorship details, you may also need your Business Registration Certificate.
IRD WebsiteRegister as a taxpayer online
Complete the taxpayer registration form on IRD e-Services with your personal details, NIC or passport number, and address to obtain your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN).
Register for TINRequest your e-Services PIN
Once your TIN is issued, request a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to access IRD e-Services.
