Obtain a Birth Certificate

What you'll need
- •National Identity Card (NIC) of applicant
- •Details of the birth (name, date, place, parents' names)
- •Original birth certificate (if requesting a certified copy/re-print)
- •Authorization letter (if applying on behalf of someone else)
Check if online certified copies are available
If your birth was registered after computerization, you may be able to request certified copies of your birth certificate online through the Registrar General's Department's eBMD e-service.

Have the exact birth details (full name, date and place of birth, parents' names) and your NIC ready, since these are required to locate the birth entry.
Registrar General's DepartmentApply through the Divisional Secretariat One Day Service
If the record is available in the eBMD system, you can obtain a certified copy through the One Day Service counter at the Registrar Division of any Divisional Secretariat island-wide.

If the birth was never registered, apply for late registration at the Divisional Secretariat where the birth occurred, providing supporting evidence as required.
